About Parsuram Jyanti :

Devam naumi ramapathim ranapatum baswath kireedanchitham,
Kodandam sasaram karena dadhtatham vamena chanyena cha,
Aartha thrana patum kutaramasatham kandacchidam bhasuram,
Smasru prasphurithananam surathanum ramam sada saswatham.

Jamadagni and their Kama Dhenu cow were killed by a kshatriya king, Kartavirya Sahashrarjun. Thus Parshuram vowed to kill all the kshatriyas on this earth and made it free from the autocracy of the kshatriyas.

All the kshatriyas fled away due to the terror of him and no one remained to protect this earth. So Kashyap muni ordered Parshuram to leave this world. Parshuram went to mountain Mahendra and began living there.

The birthday of Parshuram is celebrated on the 3rd day of Shukla Paksh of Vaishakh month. This year in 2010 the date of Parshuram Jayanti is May 16. Fast is kept on this day to be blessed with son and is also called Parshu Rama Dwadashi.

According to Varah Puran by keeping a fast on this day the devotee enjoys his stay in Brahmiok and will be reborn to become a great king.

Parasuram Jayanti is believed to be the birthday or appearance day of Lord Parashurama. Parashuram is the fifth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This festival is observed on Akshay Tritiya or the third day in Shukla Paksha during Vaisakh month in many parts of India. In 2011, Parashurama Jayanthi date is May 6.

Parsu is an axe-like weapon adopted by Lord Parasuram. Lord Parasuram was the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Parashuram was born in Satyu-Yuga and stayed alive till Mahabharata time (Dwapara Yuga). Some scriptures say that Lord Parashuram will stay alive until the Universe faces the Mahapralaya (deluge).

Parasuram Jayanti is celebrated with utmost fervor in Konkan area. Konkan region is called as Parashurama Bhoomi (the land of Parshurama) because Lord Parshurama is considered as the creator of the Konkan coast. In Kerala and some neighboring places celebrate Parsuram Jayanti in Kerala month of Vrishchika masam (Margasirsh month) which comes usually in December.

Significance and Purpose of Parasurama Avatar:
The main purpose of the avatar of Lord Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Vishnu, to make the earth free from the burden of cruel kshatriya kings by defeating the evilness of them as they neglected their regular duties as kings.

The kshatriya kings of the earth became very cruel and were performing many anti-religious acts in the Satya-Yug. Goddess Prithvi (Mother Earth) was unbearable of all these ridiculous acts of the kings and went to Lord Sri Maha Vishnu and worshipped the Lord to relieve her form this. Lord Vishnu appeared in front of Mother Earth and assured that he will incarnate as Parasurama, a . Parasuram has taken revenge of his fathers brutal murder by a kshatriya king and relieved the Mother Earth by slaying all kshatriya kings of the earth.

Temples and Holy Places of Lord Parashuram:
Lord Parasurama was the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, but he is not worshipped as much as Lord Sri Rama and Lord Sri Krishna. The worship of Lord Parasurama is also very strange as we cant compare it with other worship procedures, as the Lord is the Avesha Avatara like Lord Narasimha Swamy.

In Maharahstra, there is a temple for Lord Parsurama at Lote Parshurama in Ratnagiri district. The Konkan area is called as Parashurama Bhoomi (the land of Parshurama) because Lord Parshurama is considered as the creator of the Konkan coast. There are several temples for Lord Parsuram in Gujarat (Bharuch and Songadh), Maharashtra (Akkalkot, Khopali) and in Jammu Kashmir (Akhnoor).

Rituals and Customs of Parsurama Jayanti:
Parsurama Jayanti is a very important festival for Brahmins as the Lord was also a brahmin. They worship him with utmost devotion and in regions; people observe fasting as the festival coincides with Akshay Tritiya.

About Moatsu Festival :

The North-eastern state of Nagaland is a vibrant hilly locale that is sheltered by Myanmar in the East; Assam in the West; Arunachal Pradesh and Assam in the North with Manipur in the south. The state is a home for many tribal communities. Nagaland is rich in traditions and cultural heritage.

One of the tribal communities Ao tribe celebrates Moatsu Festival in the first week of May every year. Various rituals are performed during this period. Moatsü Mong is observed after the sowing is done.

It gives an opportunity for recreation and entertainment to flex the muscles after the weeklong stressful work of harvesting, ploughing and sowing seeds, cleaning up the Tsubu (Wells) and repairs and construction of houses by elders of the Putu Menden. The environment becomes vibrant and lively during Moatsu festival by peppy songs and dances on the pulsating music by the tribal men and women.

Traditionally, Moatsu Mong was celebrated only after the biggest (and most time-consuming) tasks of the community were completed- the sowing of grain, the cleaning of village ponds, the construction and repair of houses. The days leading up to the festival are, even today, a period of hectic activity.

Homes are cleaned and decorated; rice beer is brewed (in huge quantities- what is a festival without liquor, after all?!) and cows, pigs and fowls are fattened for the inevitable feast. For the three days of Moatsu Mong, there is much rejoicing, singing and dancing; delegations go from one village to the next, bearing gifts, feasts are held, and eulogies are sung in praise of traditional heroes.

Celebrated by the Ao tribes of Nagaland, the Moatsu Festival is a time of great rejoying as the planting season comes to an end. All activities are associated with the harvest. You can expect a lot of singing, dancing, and merry making at this festival. The highlight of the occasion is Sangpangtu. Men and women dress up in their best attire and sit around a fire, eating meat and wine.

About World Labour day :

May Day as Labour Daymay

In many countries including India, May Day is also celebrated as Labour Day. The day originates with the US labour movement in the late 19th century. The history of the movement dates back to May 1, 1886.

On this day several labour unions across the US went on strike, demanding a standard workday of eight hours. On May 4th there was bloodshed in Chicago's Haymarket Square – A bomb thrown by a revolutionist led to the deaths of a dozen people (including several police officers) and the injury of over 100 people.

The protests did not get an immediate outcome, but they proved effective subsequently, as eight-hour work days became the norm in many countries across the globe. This day was hence chosen as a day for demonstrations, parades, and speeches. It is a major state holiday in US, Russia and other communist countries. In India, May Day has also been declared a public holiday.

Founder of Labor Day

More than 100 years after the first Labor Day observance, there is still some doubt as to who first proposed the holiday for workers.

Some records show that Peter J. McGuire, general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a cofounder of the American Federation of Labor, was first in suggesting a day to honor those "who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold."

But Peter McGuire's place in Labor Day history has not gone unchallenged. Many believe that Matthew Maguire, a machinist, not Peter McGuire, founded the holiday. Recent research seems to support the contention that Matthew Maguire, later the secretary of Local 344 of the International Association of Machinists in Paterson, N.J., proposed the holiday in 1882 while serving as secretary of the Central Labor Union in New York. What is clear is that the Central Labor Union adopted a Labor Day proposal and appointed a committee to plan a demonstration and picnic.

A Nationwide Holiday

The form that the observance and celebration of Labor Day should take were outlined in the first proposal of the holiday — a street parade to exhibit to the public "the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations" of the community, followed by a festival for the recreation and amusement of the workers and their families. This became the pattern for the celebrations of Labor Day. Speeches by prominent men and women were introduced later, as more emphasis was placed upon the economic and civic significance of the holiday. Still later, by a resolution of the American Federation of Labor convention of 1909, the Sunday preceding Labor Day was adopted as Labor Sunday and dedicated to the spiritual and educational aspects of the labor movement.

The character of the Labor Day celebration has undergone a change in recent years, especially in large industrial centers where mass displays and huge parades have proved a problem.

This change, however, is more a shift in emphasis and medium of expression. Labor Day addresses by leading union officials, industrialists, educators, clerics and government officials are given wide coverage in newspapers, radio, and television.

The vital force of labor added materially to the highest standard of living and the greatest production the world has ever known and has brought us closer to the realization of our traditional ideals of economic and political democracy. It is appropriate, therefore, that the nation pay tribute on Labor Day to the creator of so much of the nation's strength, freedom, and leadership — the American worke

The First Labor Day

The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. The Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later, on September 5, 1883.

In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday, as originally proposed, and the Central Labor Union urged similar organizations in other cities to follow the example of New York and celebrate a "workingmen's holiday" on that date. The idea spread with the growth of labor organizations, and in 1885 Labor Day was celebrated in many industrial centers of the country.
